That's because this was shot with a very long telephoto lens. I got a lot of help from other photographers when I was starting out, and I love passing it on. Telling other users to hurt or kill themselves in any form is against reddit TOS, and will earn you a permanent ban. They make elements in the background look very similar in size to the ones in the foreground. You would probably want a small aperture for greater depth of field, but that actually corresponds to a larger f-stop. Rules detailed rules 0.
And that does reduce the amount of light, but in direct sun you probably wouldn't need too high of an ISO.
